Setting up Battle Buddy
For WoW Forever only. It isn't built for retail WoW or the other Classic versions. Install it into your Forever game folder.
Thanks for joining the beta! Everything is free while it lasts. While you play WoW Forever, Battle Buddy records where trainers and vendors are and what they teach and sell. Sharing that lets us make the profession routes right for everyone at launch. Setup takes about 5 minutes, then you just play.
1. Install the addon
- In the CurseForge app, pick World of Warcraft and the Forever version, then search for Battle Buddy - Forever Planner and install it.
- It's a beta release. If the search doesn't show it, set the preferred release type for WoW to Beta in the CurseForge app's settings and search again. Or download the zip from the addon's CurseForge page and unzip it into your
World of Warcraft\_forever_\Interface\AddOnsfolder (the folder name may differ on your PC). - Already using CraftPath? Keep it installed for now. Battle Buddy includes it, brings over what it recorded the first time you log in, and turns the separate copy off.
2. Install the desktop app (Windows)
Get the app from your account pageYou'll need to be signed in. No account yet? Create one with your invite code.
- Click Download the app on your account page. Your browser may warn that "Battle-Buddy-Setup.exe isn't commonly downloaded". In Edge, open the warning, click the arrow next to Delete and choose Keep anyway. Chrome and others have a similar Keep option.
- Run Battle-Buddy-Setup.exe. It installs just for you; no admin rights needed.
- Windows may then say "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway.
- The app is signed by Battle Buddy Addon LLC, but it's new, so Microsoft hasn't seen many downloads of it yet. These warnings fade as more people install it. If a warning names a different publisher, or none, don't run the file: tell us instead.
- Battle Buddy opens and finds your WoW folder by itself. If it says no data was found yet, that's normal before you've played with the addon. If it can't find WoW at all, click Choose WoW folder….
3. Turn on sharing
- In the app, read what's shared, then switch on Share facts I find.
- Leave Start Battle Buddy with Windows on. The app then runs quietly in the system tray (the gold shield by the clock) and you never have to think about it.
What's shared: only facts about the game world: where trainers and vendors stand, what trainers teach and for how much, what vendors sell, dungeon entrances, what creatures drop, and who gives quests.
Never shared: character or realm names, what your characters know, gold, bags or bank, chat, mail, guild or friends. Uploads carry a random key made on your PC, not linked to you. Details: privacy policy.

4. Play
- Talk to profession trainers and open vendor windows, especially trade supply vendors. Just opening the window is enough; you don't need to buy or learn anything, and it works for professions your character doesn't have.
- WoW saves addon data when you log out or type /reload. A few seconds later the app sends anything new. That's it.
- Want to see what you've found? Open the app from the tray. "Waiting to be shared" shows a summary, and "Show the facts" lists them.
Good to know
- Pause or stop any time: in the app, use Pause sharing or Delete my contributor key, or right-click the tray icon.
- Questions or bugs? Join the Battle Buddy Discord, or use the Feedback button in game.
- Updates install themselves. The app downloads new versions in the background. Update the addon in CurseForge as usual.
- Uninstall: Windows Settings → Apps → Battle Buddy.
- Found a bug or a trainer in a weird spot? Tell Daniel, or email contact@battlebuddy.info.
